Dubia Roaches (Blaptica dubia) Care Instructions

Be sure to feed your Dubia Roaches as soon as you get them set up, they have been without food and water since they left our facility, and will be hungry. We always send extra in case some didn't make it during transit. Our feeder insects are shipped without any wet/moist food as it can cause a rise in humidity and mold to grow in the shipment.

Dubia Roaches are easy to keep and breed but do have a few requirements in order to successfully breed.

Very Important!! Wear a mask!! While you may not have an allergic reaction to your initial contact with Dubia Roaches, frass (excrement aka poop) and castings can cause an intolerance over time, becoming severe enough to do permanent damage and/or require a hospital visit.

What they need for housing and feeding:

Enclosure, a large storage tub with a hole cut into the lid and replaced with a screen, or a 40-gallon breeder tank with a screen lid, works perfectly.
Egg Flats, the number would be determined by the size of the enclosure. Used by the roaches for places to hide.
Two Bowls, one for dry food and one for water crystals.
For dry food, you can spend money on "Roach" Diet(s), but you can also use Chicken Layer Pellets from any feed store. When purchasing from feed stores it's recommended to either freeze the whole bag for 3-7 days or to bake at 175-200 for a couple of hours in order to kill off any grain mites.
Water Crystals, 1.5-2 oz added to 1 gallon of water.
Veggie Scraps every day or every other day. All veggie scraps are welcome by Dubia Roaches. Never feed more than they will eat within a few hours or humidity will rise. Do not feed citrus fruits, onions, garlic, or stems from tomatoes. While these items won't hurt your Dubias and in the case of citrus fruits they may make them produce more, they are not good for the animals you feed the roaches to.
Cleaner Crews. We suggest Buffalo Beetles/Lesser Mealworms.
Heat!! This is the most important part!! Heat mats work great on a thermostat, kept between 85-90.
